Principal's Message

Welcome to Mountain View Alternative Schools,

I am proud to be returning to Mountain View Alternative Schools as the principal.  I will be supporting the staff and families of Mountain View Alternative Schools to increase the academic and social growth of our students.  I have been a resident of the San Jacinto Valley for over forty years, and have been a part of the San Jacinto Unified School District educational team since 1995.  I maintain high expectations for our students and staff.  I believe that maintaining a safe environment where teachers can teach and students can learn is the number one priority of all stakeholders.  Working together as a team is essential to the success of our students.

I plan to continue working with the students, families and staff to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment with a rigorous curriculum that meets A-G course standards.  Students attending Mountain View Alternative Schools will continue to use critical thinking to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals as we help to prepare them for college and career.

Continuing this school year, we will be offering limited seats in our Mountain Heights Virtual Academy, where students will participate in a blended learning opportunity that includes independent online assignments at home and scheduled hands-on laboratory activities on campus.  This program is intended for the student who desires a college prep course of study in a non-traditional environment.

A flourishing aquaponics program began in 2014 with five classroom systems and the installation of a weather station. http://www.sanjacintoweather.com/
A sustainable living science center came to life in 2016, with the addition of two large outdoor aquaponics systems; solar, wind, and bicycle power; raised-bed farming; a drought-tolerant demonstration garden; and composting and worm farming.  These are all being designed and created by our students, teachers, and volunteers.

Parent participation is vital to our success.  Many parents have expressed an interest in having an active role at Mountain View Alternative Schools.  We are constantly on the lookout for family members who have time to give to the students of Mountain View Alternative Schools.  There are several ways to get involved.  We always need members on School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, to help with our sustainable living center.  Most of our volunteer opportunities involve filling out a volunteer application which you can find online. .https://www.sanjacinto.k12.ca.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=330922&type=d&pREC_ID=758614
After your application is submitted and processed you will be notified to come in for the creation of your ID badge.  This will allow you to volunteer on campus, in classrooms, and on field trips

I encourage you to communicate with your child's teachers on a regular basis to ensure that you and your child are getting the most out of our educational environment.  I look forward to getting to know the parents and students of Mountain View Alternative Schools and expect a great school year.

Mr. Ken Swanson  --Principal
